Rita Couch Reese's Obituary
Rita Couch Reese passed away on February 10, 2025 in Salt Lake City, Utah of complications from influenza. Rita was born in Brigham City, Utah, on March 27, 1949 to James and Eva Couch. She enjoyed her childhood in this small community including her time at Box Elder High School where she was a member of the drill team. After graduation Rita attended cosmetology school as she loved doing hair and make-up. She was quite good at those late 1960’s “up-dos” and other popular styles. Later, she went to Stevens Henager College to gain some business skills. It was there she met Richard Reese and they became inseparable. They were married in Brigham City on June 27, 1972. Ten years later their marriage was solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
Rita and Richard were soulmates and shared a strong love and bond for 50 years. They lived many of those years in the Salt Lake and Murray areas where they raised their beloved daughter, Rachel. Rita was devoted to her family and enjoyed family camping trips, vacations to Disneyland and St. George while Rachel was young. Rita also worked in the Purchasing Department for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints for several years. She enjoyed her career working downtown and in the headquarters of her church.
Rita and Richard later retired to St. George, Utah and enjoyed a new life in warmer weather. It was here they spent time both working as Teacher’s Assistants for special education students. Rita’s heart was broken when Richard passed away in January 2023 but she carried on for two more years. A few months prior to her death she moved back to the Salt Lake area.
Rita is survived her daughter Rachel Reese Atkinson (Jarrod) and three grandsons, Aidan, DeMetrie, and Sawyer. She is also survived by two siblings, Ross Couch and Evon Crofts (Steve) and Richard’s siblings Neil Reese (Kathy), Vicki Reese Wilson (Terre), Mary Sue Hortin (Howard), and Roger Reese (Lisa) plus many nieces and nephews.
In addition, Rita is survived by her very close friends who were like family to her, Mary and John Scott and their children Maggie Scott Young (Mehl) and John Scott (Anne). Mary was always there to help Rita in every way and was like a sister to her. John and the kids provided all kinds of support too. We all thank the Scott family for their kindness and love.
There will be no funeral service at Rita’s request. If you like, please plant a daisy somewhere this spring in Rita’s memory. It was her favorite flower.
