Robert Keith Erwin's Obituary
Robert Keith Erwin, 74, of Roy, Utah passed away peacefully in his home on May 23, 2022 after a 3-month battle with sudden onset congestive heart failure and kidney failure.
A man of many names, Keith, Robert, Bob, Herm, Dad, Grandpa and Papa. His family called him Keith. At work and in public, he was Bob.
Keith came into the world his own way, on December 27, 1947 in the backseat of a neighbor’s borrowed car in Ogden, Utah to Robert J. and Patricia Erwin.
Keith grew up in West Ogden, Utah until his family moved to Rochester, NY when he was in high school. As soon as he was able, he enlisted in the Army and served two years fighting in Vietnam. After he was honorably discharged, he moved to Washington state for several years before returning to Ogden, UT. Once there, he met Nancy Rae Dean and they were married November 25, 1973 in Elko, NV.
Keith attended Weber State University and received his BS in Accounting in 1976. He later completed his CPA license. Bob worked as a CPA and Accountant for various companies until he went to work as a Customer Service Representative for the Internal Revenue Service in 2001. He retired with 19 years of service in 2017. With his background, he excelled at his job and was involved in training new employees and providing feedback through work review. Bob was known for his knowledge and patience.
Keith was an avid gun owner and marksman. He reloaded many of his own rounds and was meticulous with his craft. Bob volunteered as a Range Officer at the Wasatch Shooter’s Association throughout his retirement, where he enjoyed the company of his fellow range officers and sharing his expertise.
Keith was a big NASCAR fan. Jeff Gordon was his favorite driver. He was able to attend a race at the Phoenix and Fontana tracks, and several at the Las Vegas track. He even got to do a ride along and drive a NASCAR car with the Richard Petty Driving Experience.
Keith loved the outdoors, camping, hunting and riding quads. Some of his favorite places to go were Duchesne, the Uintah Mountains, Dry Bread Hollow, 5-Mile and Flaming Gorge.
Although not musical himself, Keith loved country music. George Strait could not sing a bad song. He also loved Classic Rock, particularly George Thorogood, The Eagles and Cream.
Of course, his greatest love was his family. He loved being with them and they were involved in every aspect of his life. Every vacation, race and camping trip was planned and enjoyed with his family in mind. Almost every Sunday consisted of a family dinner at their house.
Keith is preceded in death by his parents, Robert J. and Patricia Erwin.
Keith is survived by his wife, Nancy; his children, Eric Erwin, Emily (Robb) Jones and Sara (Jeremy) Cass; three grandchildren, Jessica, Crystal and Tabitha; and two great-grandchildren, Adrian and Danielle Jo; his three brothers Andy (Pat), Dennis (Faye) and Mike (Freida).
The Family would like to thank Elevation Hospice, Samantha, Dane, Liz, Madi and Cyndi for the gentle and kind treatment of Keith.
Funeral services will be held at 10am on Friday, June 3, 2022 at Saint Rose of Lima Catholic Church in Layton, UT. Friends and family are invited to the Erwin residence afterwards to reminisce about the life of Keith.
“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside in a cloud of smoke, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming ‘Wow! What a Ride!’” - Hunter S. Thompson
