Morris Kay
Bob came over to Aberdeen, UK with the wave of thousands of Americans to develop the newly discovered North Sea oilfields in the early 70s. I first met Bob when I joined Oxy in 1975. As drilling manager he led a team of crusty old drilling superintendents and dynamic young engineers who were pushing the boundaries of known technology to discover and develop two giant oilfields and explore for other prospects. Bob led, where appropriate, with a light touch and positive ambience which helped get the best out of people who were striving towards safe and productive operations in a hostile environment. While he valued good humour we were never in doubt as to what was expected of us or who was in charge.
One of Bob’s most endearing qualities was his willingness to facilitate the career development of local personnel. For me and many others this was life changing. I am so pleased that when I spoke to Bob last month I finished off the call saying “Thanks for everything, Bob!”
I know I am speaking for many local people who are also very saddened to hear about Bob and who have their own special memories of him. RIP Boss!
