Shauna Iris Martin's Obituary
Shauna Iris Martin
1957–2025
Shauna Martin took her last exhale at 4:44 AM on June 1, 2025. She was surrounded by her loving daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren, and soon-to-be great-grandbaby boy. She worked hard for three days before her final breath, and we are so proud of her.
Shauna was born to Beaulah Vivian Hendrickson and Charles Allen Martin on May 29, 1957. She grew up in the Poplar Grove area of Salt Lake City, Utah. She was always surrounded by many friends and was the life of every room she entered.
Shauna also struggled for many years with addiction and incarceration. It was at the Utah State Prison that she developed an unbreakable relationship with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Shauna could interpret the Bible in a way that would captivate anyone’s interest. She also had a remarkable connection with children and animals, and they always seemed magnetized to her.
Shauna loved to crochet and made many beautiful pieces for the people she loved. She loved reading books and educating herself on many topics that interested her. She also enjoyed studying astrology and numerology, creating many birth charts for others. Her greatest love was her daughter and her grandchildren. Over the past two years, she was able to spend a lot of quality time with everyone, and for that we are forever grateful.
Shauna was the fun grandma and was always up for shenanigans with her grandchildren. Whether it was watching scary movies before they were old enough or letting them drive the car around the neighborhood, she made many cherished memories.
Shauna had a very special relationship with her son-in-law, Frank. She showed him a side of herself that she revealed to no one else. Shauna made friends wherever she went, and if you were her friend, you were considered very lucky because she was a great one.
Over the past few years. Shauna and her daughter Shaunell were inseparable, just as they had been when Shaunell was a little girl.
Shauna can breathe again, and that brings us all a little more peace in our hearts.
The family would like to take this moment to express our deepest gratitude to Dr. Vaklavas and his team at Huntsman Medical Center, as well as her favorite hospice nurses, London and Blaire. We also wish to thank Shauna’s primary care physician, Johanna Greenberg, for her tenacity in breaking the stigma of addiction and treating Shauna with the dignity and respect she deserved.
Shauna leaves behind her daughter, Shaunell Young, and son-in-law, Frank Young; her grandchildren, Raymond (Myah), Dustin, Noah, Micah, and Laila; her sister, Gayle Defa; and her great-grandson, who is due to be born any day. She also leaves behind her beloved fur baby, Ava, and many beautiful friendships.
Shauna was preceded in death by her parents, Beaulah and Charles; her brother, Charles Dustin Bills; sister-in-law, Denise Bills; brothers, Robert Martin, Bill Martin, Ronald Martin, and David Martin; and her sister, Shirley Haycock.
A graveside service will be held at Elysian Burial Gardens at 2:00 PM on Saturday, June 7, 2025, followed by a celebration of life at Main Street Park in Sandy at 4:30 PM.
