Thomas David Grover's Obituary
THOMAS DAVID GROVER
1950-2020
Thomas David Grover passed away March 29, 2020, in the comfort of his home. He was born March 7, 1950, in Ogden, Utah, to LeGrand Grover and Viola Lucille Darcey. He graduated from Clearfield High in 1968, where he lettered in track and field, wrestling, and football. He then served his country honorably in the United States Army Special Forces during and after the Vietnam War as a Green Beret from 1968-1978. From 1970-1972 he took a 2-year leave of absence from the armed forces to serve a full-time mission. He served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Great Australia West Mission, which spanned the western half of the country. His mission meant a great deal to him and he cherished the people he served there.
On August 30, 1973, he married Charlotta Elaine Cook in the Ogden Utah Temple. They reared 7 children in Davis County, Utah. A paint contractor/craftsman by profession, he made his living making peoples’ homes beautiful. His favorite places to work included the Ogden Utah Temple and the Salt Lake Utah Temple. In the Salt Lake Temple he painted, marbled, wood grained and gold leafed in several different areas.
A life-long scouter, Tom believed the ideals and principles of scouting were some of the best ways to help youth become hard working, dedicated, and honorable adults. For his years of dedicated service, he received the Silver Beaver Award and Vigil Honor in the Order of the Arrow.
A lover of the outdoors, he was happiest when wandering through the woods or kayaking on a serene mountain lake. He passed on his love for the outdoors to his children and many others. He was a skilled artist and craftsman and enjoyed using his gifts in many ways, including creating Native American regalia.
He is preceded in death by his wife Charlotta, as well as his parents and brother. He is survived by his 7 children: Emily (David McAllister); Alisa (Dan Simpson); Amelia; Thomas (Erin); Breanne; Nathan; Samuel (Brynn); and 13 grandchildren: Cora, Ethan, Hyrum, Grace, Rebecca, Logan, Elisabeth, Jacob, Ellenor, William, Charlotte, Owen, and Bennett. A memorial service will be held in his honor at a future date, which will be posted in the newspapers.
