Waldo "Wally" Elbridge Burrill's Obituary
Waldo “Wally” Elbridge Burrill, 94, went to be with our Lord on September 15, 2022. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him as a fun-loving, full-of-life husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, great-uncle, and friend. Wally was born in Forestburg, SD, graduated from Forestburg High School, attended Dakota Wesleyan College in Mitchell, married his sweetheart Constance “Connie” Webster, and built his insurance business for more than 35 years while also raising cattle and horses.
Born on September 11, 1928, Wally’s early years were spent on the back of a pony gallivanting and delivering papers. He was a whiz on roller skates and met the love of his life at Ruskin Park. Married in 1949, Wally and Connie always welcomed family and friends with an entertaining story and a lively time. They loved music and usually ended up dancing. Wally was a “tony” dresser and an impressive whistler.
Wally went from riding horses to riding a golf cart, and he achieved every golfer’s life ambition by getting a hole-in-one in Palm Springs, CA, where Wally and Connie lived for 30 years. He was a life-long member of the Presbyterian Church and served as an elder.
Earlier this year, Wally and Connie moved to Salt Lake City, UT. His family wants to thank all the caregivers at The Ridge and from Hospice for their loving support and for making Wally comfortable in his last days.
Wally was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Anne Burrill; sisters, Elaine (Wayne) Krueger and Donna (Doug) Carpenter; and granddaughter, Callie Burrill. Wally is survived by his beloved wife of 73 years, Connie, and their children, Jeff (Cathy) Burrill, Bob (Mary) Burrill, Lauren (John) Mehlhoff, and Joan (Jay) Krueger. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren, Jenna (Bryan) Vann, Jason Krueger, Candice (Andy) Feit, Katee (Brandon) Lane, Topher (Amy) Mehlhoff, Scott Burrill, Kim (Nick) Skibsted, and Paige (Dana) Frame. He was blessed with 15 great-grandchildren.
Wally had an accomplished and full life. A celebration of his extraordinary life will be at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, September 30, at Mount Olympus Presbyterian Church.
