I've had so many memories of Hoeltje over all the years I knew him, from tailgating at County Stadium to bartending with him on NYE at Ray's Evergreen to diddy bopping down the trail from Ray's to his apartment for after hours drinks and more laughs. By far my most favorite and memorable was gathering 20 friends and tavern regulars together to fly to Pittsburgh and surprise him for his 50th birthday. How we managed to keep it from him for so many months is still a mystery. Everyone told us how mad he'd be that we were showing up on his vacation, but I knew it was going to be great, we were there only 48 hours and managed to cram in tons of laughs, soooo many beers, Dodgers vs Pirates game and a tram ride down the mountain. He would talk of that trip for years and those of us that went are still talking about it. Thanks for always making me call you when I got home...I wasn't always the best at it, but I learned over the years, it was a request out of love and concern. You will be greatly miss Hoeltje. Say hi to John for me. xxooxxoo Liza
